Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Krieger has a BA from Rutgers College, where he majored in physics and psychology. He then earned his MD at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1989. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the George Washington University Hospital in 1990 and his psychiatry residency at the Boston University Medical Center in 1993. He is also a graduate and academic member of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

 

Board Certified in General Adult, Addictions, and Geriatric Psychiatry, Dr. Krieger served for nearly 3 decades as staff psychiatrist for the outpatient mental health clinic of the Bedford VA Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts, where, he served as medical staff president, chaired the Ethics Advisory Committee, lectured on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and taught the BU medical students.

Semi-retired since 2021, Dr. Krieger maintains his solo private practice from his home in Bedford, Massachusetts, while pursuing his relatively newfound interest in consciousness, altered states, their neural correlates, parapsychology, and ontological shock . 

 

In 2016, Dr. Krieger began his psychic odyssey after undergoing an anomalous experience (“spontaneous mediumship”) which challenged his physicalist worldview and prompted these new interests.

 

In 2023, Dr. Krieger's account of his spontaneous mediumship was published in The Playful Universe Volume 5: Synchronicity and The Nature of Consciousness, published by the Scientific and Medical Network (SMN) and the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Science (AAPS). He has subsequently given presentations on his journey From Materialism to Mysticism: A Psychiatrist’s Psychic Odyssey for the Scientific and Medical Network in 2025 and From Couch to Cosmos: A Psychiatrist’s Leap Beyond Materialism at the second annual A.C.O.R.N. (Anomalous Cognitions Occurrences Research Network) Symposium in Richmond, Virginia in February of 2026.

During the ten years since his spontaneous mediumship, Dr. Krieger has experienced many other psi experiences ranging from precognitive dreams and visions to remote viewing to telepathy to out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and more.

Dr. Krieger's new book, Ghost Stories and Other Tales of Nonfiction: The Memoirs of a Small Medium at Large, takes you through his journey, from closed-minded skeptic to open-minded super experiencer, as he shares his anomalous experiences, the ontological shock that accompanied them, and his subsequent attempt to make sense of the universe.
